In 2010, DAO crews cleaned the illegal
dump at Avon, Indiana nature preserve.
DAO Crews clobbered a big mess at Burnett Woods Nature Preserve in Avon during Summer, 2010. The Central Indiana Land Trust asked DAO to handle the clean-up and to recycle as much of the materials as possible. Ten truckloads later, it looks like a nature preserve once again. With all of the rain this Spring, this was a muddy job! One more down and alot more to go!
This partnership between CAGI and DAO has resulted in the training and employment of persons with a history of long term unemployment. The program provides job training and jobs. DAO now has over 90 employees, apprentices and interns.
Griffin Hodnett, a senior from Ingalls, Indiana, undertook the clean-up of an area bordering the town park as his senior project this Spring, 2009.
Griffin Hodnett, making a difference in his community.
Griffin is headed to Purdue University where he will study engineering. He came across this illegal dump while walking in the park. Almost certainly hundreds have known of the existence of this illegal dump for many years. Griffin, however, decided to do something about it.
Griffin contacted Disposal Alternatives to see how we could help with the project.
Phase one was held May 2 when DAO sponsored a town-wide appliance recycling and heavy trash day. Dozens of town residents participating, filling several truck loads of appliances. DAO is handling the clean-up at no cost to the Town of Ingalls or its residents.
Phase 2 was the systematic removal and recycling of materials now polluting the bank of the creek running through the park. Below, technicians make a plan for removing the debris.
The clean up of the site required the use of some heavy equipment and crew members who wade into the murky water and mud. DAO crews will do what it takes to get this site beautiful again.
