3 R's, a popular 2011 New Year's Resolutions
**Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle**
According to USA.gov, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle are one of the top ten most popular resolutions for 2011.

- Reduce: Rinse out your containers and separate your empty canned goods, glass, and paper items from your trash. This will help reduce the amount of trash that is put into our landfills.
- Reuse: Use reusable containers and products.
- Recycle: start recycling as much as possible and you will find something new every day that you didn't know was recyclable.
Get your children involved: Have a magnet available when throwing away metal objects. Let them test the metal to identify what type it is. If the magnet sticks, it is a ferrous metal. If the magnet does not stick, it is a non-ferrous metal.
When throwing something away, consider the following:
- does it plug into the wall?
- does it have metal or aluminum?
- does it have plastics?
- could someone repair it and use it?
- is it harmful to the environment?
The above information is just a few ways you can begin adding the three R's in your day to day life.

We Recycle
br> br>DAO is a single stream recycler, so there is no need to separate all of your items. Just bring it all to us in a container and we will empty it for you.
br> br>Beginning January 1, 2011, Indiana households, public schools, and small businesses will no longer be able to mix unwanted computer monitors, computers, televisions, printers, computer peripherals (such as keyboards and mice), DVD players, video cassette recorders or fax machines with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill or intended for disposal by burning or incineration. This disposal prohibition can be found in Indiana Code 13-20.5.
br> br> br> br> ************** br> br>In 2007 the EPA Estimated 109,060 computers PER DAY would end in our landfills, while only 18% of electronic waste (E-waste) discarded in 2007 was recycled. Although E-waste only makes up 3% of our nations landfill, it is the source of 85% of all heavy metals improperly disposed. These toxins include: Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Beryllium, and Hexavalent Chromium. These toxins leach into our water ways as they poison our fish, livestock and eventually the population. Together we can reverse this pattern while creating jobs.
